Noah James Smith Birth

It has been so fun having a new baby at our house! He is the sweetest, cutest, most perfect little thing  I've ever seen! Friday, February 22nd (2 days after my EDD) early in the morning (about 5ish I think) I was woken up a few times with painful contractions but they were far apart so I just feel back asleep after each one. Then at about 7am Halle and Eva woke up and came in our room and mike got up to start getting ready for work. After being awake for about 30 minutes I realized my contractions were coming about 7 minutes apart and were definitely real labor pain. So, Mike called into work and said he wasn't coming in. All morning I was having contractions, some were pretty painful others were not as painful and I would get worried at times when I had 2 or 3 in a row that weren't painful that I wasn't really in labor! I was getting kind of frustrated because the contractions weren't getting closer together or MORE painful and I new it had to get worse before I was actually ready to have the baby. So I started going up and down the stairs, and walking around the house a lot, and we decided we were going to go to target so I could at least get out and walk around more and be distracted with something. So I took a long shower and finally they started getting worse. After my shower I labored in my room by myself for awhile and was having some good contractions but still, nothing really bad, so I finished getting ready and told everyone to get ready to leave for the store. I kept walking around and did the stairs a few more times and then really quickly the contractions started coming really close together (like 3-5 minutes apart) and REALLY painful, at probably like 1 o'clock. After about 30 minutes of this I told everyone we should probably head to the hospital instead of the store. So Mike's mom took the girls, and me, mom and mike headed to AF to the hospital. When we got there I was so nervous that I wouldn't be progressed enough for them to let me stay but I was dilated to a 5! YAY and such a sigh of relief! We got all checked in and in a delivery room then I got my IV and told the Nurse to call the Anesthesiologist so I could get my epidural! He came in and gave me the epidural at 4:40 and dilated to a 6 and usually it takes about 15 minutes to kick in but once it was in I didn't feel another contraction, which was SO nice!  Then at about 7:15 I think, I told my Midwife that I felt like he was getting really low and I might be ready to push, so she checked me and said I was dilated to a 10 and I indeed was ready to push, SO they got everything out that they needed, called a couple of nurses in and I started pushing at 7:40 and he was born at 7:55! When his head came out he was super blue and purple and his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck really tight which was kind of scary but the midwife was really calm, which made me not too worried.  She said she couldn't get it back over his head  so she would need to cut the cord right then. So she got it cut and right when she did he totally twisted around and got a little color back told me to push one more time and the rest of his body came right out. She put him on my chest but he wasn't really making any noise or moving and was still pretty blue/purple so after like 5 seconds she said he needed to go with the nurses to his little station to the side. they were rubbing him and giving him oxygen but he still wasn't crying and responding so they pushed the CODE button and a bunch of other nurses and doctors ran in to help but right when they came in the door Noah gave a big scream and screamed until he came back to me :) Apparently he did not want to be work on a lot and he just wanted his MAMA! :) Looking back it should have been a lot more scary but in the moment all the nurses and my midwife were so calm that it didn't seem like there was really anything wrong. At the same time hearing his first cry was like a breath of fresh air and made me cry from joy that I had a perfect little baby and everything was alright :)

from the mouth of a 2 year old

More Halle stories :)
Our day yesterday:
Halle woke up and walked out of her room to find me and eva in my room playing and she looked at us and say, "oh (giggle, giggle) hi".
Then while watching Lion king previews some disney thing came up with glitter and sparkles (Disney Enhancement maybe? is that even something?) and said in a whisper, "oh, beautiful!"
Then during the movie while i was feeding Eva a bottle Halle said, "mommy, i want one."
Me: "you want one of what?"
Halle: "Mommy, I want one!"
me: "Halle, you want one of WHAT?"
"I want one"
"What do you want Halle? I dont knwo what you're talking about"
"I WANT ONE mommy!"
then finally after me saying "one of WHAT?" AGAIN she grabbed my face and turned it and put her mouth about an inch away from my ear and said VERY slowly and clearly, "Mommy, I WANT ONE" (i never did figure out what she wanted)
Then at dinner Jaren was trying to a story when Halle whispered, "mufasa"..."Mufasa"... "MUFASA!" We all cracked up
To say the least, I laughed many times at this girl!

oh halle

last night i had a relief society thing so mike watch the girls and got them all ready for bed. i got home and he had already put Eva to sleep so all i had to do was get Halle down while mike headed off to the BYU basketball game. We read a couple of stories and then i tucked her in and sang a few songs and left the room. I went into my room and read for about an hour, then decided to check on the girls and Halle was WIDE awake just looking around and laying in bed! I couldn't believe that girl! Then I remembered that somehow she took a 3 1/2 hour nap earlier that afternoon which is twice as long as her normal naps, so apparently she really wasn't tired :) but what a good girl- i didnt hear a peep out of her and she just laid there quietly. then i regretted going in to check on her because she wanted me to stay with her-so i did for a few minutes then kissed her again and said goodnight. Then i came into the family room and turned on the TV for a few minutes and then she decided to come out with a giant grin on her face and grab a blanket and come cuddle with me on the couch... sometimes its so hard to discipline when she is just so dang cute and sweet! So I watch another few minutes and told her she could come to bed with mommy! I brushed my teeth and crawled into my bed with my sweet little girl and it was some of the sweetest moments of my week! she tickled my arm, i tickled her arm, we made shapes with our hands, she played with my hair, we gave lots of butterfly kisses with giggles after, sang songs, and she reached over many times and gave me a big hug and said "I love you SO MUCH!" And I love my girls SO much! It is just amazing to me how fast time goes and how fast they grow. They definitely can be a hand full at times but I am just so happy at how often I get to play with and really enjoy them! I am so glad that I dont have to work and that I get to stay at home all day everyday- even if at the end of the week I REALLY need a break :)

Another funny Halle story: A few days ago we went into the girls room to put them down for naps. I was holding Eva and trying to give her a little time to fall asleep, so i told Halle to get into her own bed. She climbed up and it happen to get made that morning so she needed to pull the covers down but she struggled for awhile with getting them down while she was sitting on top of them at the same time :) and then adjusting her pillow and getting UNDER the covers and getting them up on her in the right place so FINALLY everything was in place so she laid her head back onto her pillow and about 5 seconds later she sits straight up,
"All done mommy,"
Me, "No Halle you're not all done you need to take a nap"
Halle (in a super sweet innocent voice) - "no its okay mommy"
Me, "Halle, you need to lay back down and close your eyes and take a nap silly; its nap time so we are all taking a nap."
Halle, "No, no mommy. Halle no nap"
Me, "yes Halle you do need a nap. Lay down."
Then she swings her legs out from under the covers off the side of the bed so she's just sitting on the edge does a fake yawn and stretches her arms to the ceiling, "all done mommy, thanks" and hops out of bed.... Oh i was trying not to laugh so hard! Well, she did end up cooperating and getting back in bed and napping thankfully :)

She sure is a smart cookie! :) She makes me laugh all the time and i love her for it!

Nothing better than being a mom

There really is nothing better in the whole world than being a mom! I love playing with my girls and seeing their sweet spirits! I love how they interact and love each other! I love how much they love me and that I am a special person to them! I love their smiles that come all day! I love waking up with one or both laying next to me! I love how much they love their daddy! I love watching them learn and progress- oh its just so crazy how fast time flies and how fast they learn and how much of a difference only a month makes!

Eva

Eva is just the most beautiful thing i've seen in my life! She melts my heart everyday! She is so happy and content all the time. She is a good eater and pretty good sleeper :) She makes all of us smile and she really couldn't be a better baby! The photo below is from a few weeks ago when it was a little warmer... its starting to snow now so we're wearing much warmer clothes nowadays!!
This is Eva's Halloween outfit I created. I made the leggings out of socks from target and the onesie is a cat that i copied from a Halloween shirt we got for Halle at Old Navy... they matched on friday (so cute!) so i'll have to get those pics up sometime!
